Chivalry 2 is an action game played from a first-person or third-person perspective. Players are equipped with a variety of medieval melee weapons such as sledgehammers, swords and axes, and can also use bows and arrows. New weapons can be found in hidden places on the map. Players have three basic types of melee attacks; horizontal cutting, vertical cutting and blades that can be chained together. Players also need to block enemy attacks, with the right timing they can surprise their opponents and dodge their attacks. Players can take the broken pieces of their opponents and use them as weapons. They can throw melee weapons at their enemies. In the second game of the series, players can quickly leave the battlefield by riding a horse.

All game modes pit the Agatha Knights wearing blue and white against the Freemasons wearing red and black. The game includes team deathmatch and team goal mode that supports up to 64 players. In team goal mode, one group tries to break into the opposing teams castle and eliminate their king, while the other group tries to defend the castle. The battle is divided into several stages, each stage has its own specific objectives. When the players successfully capture the castle, the best players of the defending team become kings and gain various advantages. Each phase of the battle is timed and if the invaders fail to complete the objectives within that time, the defenders win the match.
