What is the Risk Game?

The risk game is a 2 to 6 player strategy board game based on diplomacy, conflict and conquest. The standard version is played on a board showing a political map of the world divided into 42 regions, grouped into 6 continents.

The turn rotates between players controlling armies of game pieces that players try to capture their territory, and fate is determined by rolls of the dice. Players can form and break alliances throughout the game. The goal is to occupy every area on the board, while eliminating other players. The game takes a long time. The European versions are configured so that each player has a limited stealth mission target that shortens the game.

How to Play the Risk Game

The preparation phase begins with determining the order of the game, distributing the armies to the players, placing one or more armies in the regions they have. Players receive armies of reinforcements proportional to the number of provinces held at the top of their turn, bonus armies to retain all scars, and additional armies to deposit province cards obtained from conquering new territories. The player can then attack, move their armies, or pass.

When it is a players turn, after deploying reinforcements, they can choose to attack adjacent areas occupied by enemy armies. A region is contiguous if it is visibly connected by land or sea. Attacks are decided by rolls of the dice, the attacking or defending player loses a certain number of armies per shot. During the attack, the war can continue until the attacking side stops attacking or the defending side loses the last army in the area it is defending. At this point, he can attack the attacking armies and capture the region and draw a region card to advance.

At the end of the players turn, he can move his armies from one of his districts to another connected territory. The player is eliminated when they lose their last zone. If there is a player who beat them, he gets the zone cards of the player he beat. The winner is the last player remaining when all other players have been eliminated.

There are two important rules. Regions are split between two players and a neutral army in preparation. Neutral army only defends when attacked, never attacks or moves armies and has no turn like an active player. If the neutral army is eliminated, the game continues under normal rules.
